A Little Crochet By Maya Update
It’s been a little while since I sat down to write a proper blog update, and there’s actually quite a lot happening behind the scenes at Crochet By Maya at the moment! From a second workshop venue, to some lovely new community perks, to a brand-new seasonal crochet series (and a little update on those four Explorers I’ve been teasing!), I thought it was time for a proper catch-up. ♡ The workshops are growing! 🧶 One of the things I’d really love to do next with Crochet By May

🍄 Workshop Updates: New Yarn, New Projects & Exciting Changes!
Over the last few months, Crochet by Maya workshops have grown more than I ever imagined, and I couldn't be more grateful to everyone who's come along to learn with me. From complete beginners picking up a crochet hook for the first time to returning attendees joining me for every new project, it's been such a joy to watch this little community grow. As the workshops have developed, I've been listening carefully to your feedback and looking at ways I can make each session eve

From Idea to Workshop in One Month ♡
The Facebook Post On May 6th, I made a Facebook post. On June 6th, I was standing in front of 11 people teaching my first crochet workshop. When you write it like that, it sounds a little crazy. The idea actually came off the back of a crochet morning I hosted for the ladies at my church. We spent time crocheting together, chatting, learning, and simply enjoying the craft. Everyone seemed to have such a lovely time, and several people mentioned they would love to do it again.

Creating the Little Crochet Basics Booklet ♡
When I first started planning my beginner crochet workshops, I knew I wanted attendees to leave with more than just a finished project... I wanted them to leave with the confidence to continue crocheting long after the workshop ended. I also wanted them to have something physical to support them throughout the beautiful journey of learning crochet, something they could take home, refer back to, and continue learning from whenever they needed a little help. What began as a few

🍄 The Lamb & the Mushroom Parasol – Free Crochet Pattern (Part 1)
There’s something really special about making your own little character from yarn… This lamb was actually the very first design in my collection - the one that started everything. She’s soft, simple, and beginner-friendly, but also gives you the chance to practise different stitches as you go. If you’re following along from YouTube - welcome ♡ And if not, you can also find the step-by-step video tutorial here:👉 Free Crochet Pattern (Part 1) 🧵 Before you start This pattern i

My First Car Boot Sale Experience
When I first started my maternity leave, I had a little goal in mind - I really wanted to take part in at least one handmade market before going back to work. I imagined having a small stall, displaying my crochet pieces, and seeing people interact with something I had made by hand. But as the weeks went by, it didn’t quite happen. Between time, preparation, and the extra costs that come with proper craft markets, it just never felt like the right moment. And suddenly, I foun

✨ Creating My First Crochet Collection ✨
I didn’t set out thinking “I’m going to become a pattern designer.” It started much more simply than that. I just wanted to create something that felt like mine. After months of crocheting other people’s patterns - especially during my maternity leave - I found myself getting faster, more confident, and quietly noticing how patterns were built. I didn’t realise it at the time, but every tester call and every project was teaching me something. And then one small conversation c
