Over the last few months, Crochet by Maya workshops have grown more than I ever imagined, and I couldn't be more grateful to everyone who's come along to learn with me.

From complete beginners picking up a crochet hook for the first time to returning attendees joining me for every new project, it's been such a joy to watch this little community grow.

As the workshops have developed, I've been listening carefully to your feedback and looking at ways I can make each session even better. I'm so excited to share a few changes coming from our August workshop onwards!

🧶 A Softer, More Premium Yarn

One of the most helpful pieces of feedback I received was that the previous chenille yarn could become uncomfortable to work with after crocheting for a while, especially for some attendees.

Because of this, I've upgraded all workshop materials to a beautifully soft premium chenille yarn that's fluffier, more durable and much kinder on your hands.

I also wanted to choose a supplier who provides the documentation needed to support the use of their yarn in UKCA-compliant handmade toys, giving me confidence in the materials I use for every workshop.

🍄 More Detailed Projects

Another exciting change is happening behind the scenes.

Until now, I made a finished reference plushie for every attendee before each workshop. While I loved doing this, it also meant spending many hours making multiple copies of the same design.

Instead, I'll now be putting that time into creating even more exciting workshop projects.

The August Mushroom Guy is a perfect example. Instead of a simple beginner plushie, this project includes shaped details, decorative appliqué and lots of adorable little finishing touches that make it feel extra special.

I can't wait to create even more cute characters in the months ahead!

🎥 Better Patterns & Video Tutorials

Every workshop also includes a printed crochet pattern and exclusive access to a video tutorial after the session.

These resources mean you can finish your project at home if you need to, or make another one whenever you like.

As the workshop projects become more detailed, I'm spending more time writing clearer patterns and filming more comprehensive tutorials so you'll continue to have everything you need long after the workshop ends.

đź’› A Small Workshop Price Update

As Crochet by Maya has grown, so has the amount of preparation that goes into every workshop.

Each new design involves hours of planning, pattern writing, testing, filming tutorials, preparing materials and getting everything ready before workshop day.

To reflect these improvements and help keep the workshops sustainable as they continue to grow, the workshop price will increase from £12 to £18 from the August workshop onwards.

My goal has always been to create workshops that are welcoming, creative and excellent value, and this change allows me to continue investing in making each one even better.

🍄 August Workshop

Our next workshop will take place on Saturday 22nd August, where we'll be making this adorable Little Mushroom Guy.

Whether you're joining us for the first time or coming back for another project, I'd love to see you there.
